Samsung introduced the folding smartphone Galaxy Z Fold2: price – 180 thousand rubles

As expected, Samsung celebrated the first day of autumn with a full-fledged announcement of the second generation of the full-size foldable Galaxy Z Fold2 smartphone, which we met a month ago. The changes are very significant: the new generation looks less and less like an expensive experiment and more and more like a full-fledged flagship product.

First of all, the Fold2 has a larger external 6.2-inch Super AMOLED screen (2260 × 816). It occupies almost the entire front area and includes perforation for a 10MP f / 2.2 camera, which is proposed to be used as a front camera when folded.

The diagonal of the main “internal” display has also increased to 7.6 inches (Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex, 2208 × 1768) versus 7.3 “in the original model. In general, the device has become more aesthetically pleasing and effective. The internal screen got rid of ugly frames, badly spoiling the aesthetics, plus the internal front camera (also 10 megapixels, f / 2.2) is now housed in a neat round cutout on one of the edges, and does not eat away the lion’s share of the corner, as in the first Fold. Both displays support HDR +. The 7.6-inch screen has an adaptive frequency from 11 to 120 Hz for maximum smoothness and energy savings.

Samsung promises that the new hinge is noticeably more reliable. This is very important because there were many complaints about the first generation: in particular, stress tests showed that the old loop could not withstand the announced 200,000 discoveries.

The unfolded dimensions are 159.2 x 128.2 x 6 mm (the thickness at the bend is only 6.9 mm). When folded, the device has become slightly thinner: 159.2 × 68 × 13.8-16.8 mm versus 160.9 × 62.9 × 15.5-17 mm for the original, but the weight due to the larger display has already approached to 300 grams (282 versus 263 grams). Interestingly, the fingerprint scanner is still located not under the screen, but on the side. However, there is the identification by face.

The heart of the device is a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC with a CPU clock speed of up to 3.09 GHz and Adreno 650 graphics, paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a high-speed 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage. Power is provided by two batteries with a total charging capacity of 4500 mAh with support for 25-watt high-speed charging and 11-watt wireless charging (there is also the possibility of reverse charging, for example, headphones).

The main triple camera with support for tracking autofocus is represented by the following modules:

  • 12MP with ultra-wide-angle optics and f / 2.2 aperture (viewing angle – 123 °, pixel size – 1.12 microns);
  • 12MP with wide-angle optics, f / 1.8 aperture and OIS (Dual Pixel high-speed AF, 83 °, 1.8um);
  • 12-megapixel telephoto module with f / 2.4 aperture and optical stabilization (45 °, 1 micron).Supports 4K video recording in HDR + format. At the same time, the camera application allows you to shoot with the camera on one side of the smartphone and immediately display the captured photos and settings on the other. Also, when taking a photo or video, information can be displayed simultaneously on two screens, so that when creating a portrait, both the operator and the model will see the frame. Thanks to the two displays, self-portraits can be taken with the main camera.

    Other features include support for 5G cellular networks (in the millimeter-wave ranges and below 6 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ax UWB (Ultra Wide Band), high-quality stereo speakers, and support for two SIM-cards (though one of them is eSIM, which is not suitable for everyone).

    Of course, there are various multi-window modes with the ability to drag and drop data between windows and compatible applications (for example, Microsoft Office) – all this allows you to optimally use the large display. The most user-friendly options for placing two or three applications on one screen can be saved as profiles and called from the quick panel.

    Some applications can work in “tablet mode”: in particular, Outlook displays a list of letters on the left and an open letter on the right. By the way, you can set the preferred interface mode: “smartphone”, with the maximum filling of the screen, or “tablet”, with the display of additional interface elements.

    The device is available in two colors – bronze and black. In some markets (including Russia), buyers will be given the option to select custom buttonhole colors: silver, gold, red and blue. The device comes in a stylish large box, which, in addition to a smartphone, warranty, and instructions, also includes a USB-C headset from AKG, a USB-C cable, and a power adapter.

    Galaxy Z Fold2 will go on sale in Russia at a price of 179,990 ₽ (the US $ 1,999.99) in standard black and bronze colors on September 18, 2020. Pre-orders for the device will be available from today in the official online store and brand stores, as well as from partners.
