Samsung has shown record sales of smartphones over the past three years
Research firm Counterpoint Research published the results of various companies in the smartphone market in the third quarter of this year.
Samsung is in the lead, and Xiaomi will soon be the second-largest smartphone manufacturer
Shipments in the global smartphone market in the third quarter of 2020 were down 4% from the same period last year, but grew 32% in the last quarter, according to the research firm. A total of 366 million smartphones were shipped.
India’s smartphone market has shown a notable jump, with shipments up 9% compared to Q3 2019 and 188% in the last quarter. As for Samsung, the company has not only topped the global ranking of the most successful smartphone manufacturers but has also become a leader in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. In the Asian region, Huawei was in the lead, while Apple traditionally led the North American market.
South Korean giant Samsung took 22% of the global market and shipped 80.4 million smartphones in the quarter, the company’s highest shipments in 3 years. As a result, Samsung posted a 3% improvement over the past year and 48% over the last quarter. Samsung, we recall, ranks third in the global market for push-button phones.
The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi overtook Apple for the first time to rank third in the global smartphone market with a 13% share and a 75% rise in the last quarter. The company did not have enough to overtake Huawei, which has 14% of the market. In the fourth quarter, Xiaomi has a great chance to implement its plans.
Apple shipments have dropped 7% over the past year as the iPhone 12 launch was delayed until the fourth quarter of this year.
