Samsung Launches Advanced ISOCELL Vizion 33D Depth Sensor for Mobile Devices

The principle of operation of the sensor is to measure the travel time of infrared light from the source to the object and the reflected light. The solution is said to provide the highest accuracy, including when tracking fast-moving objects.

The sensor generates data with a resolution of 640 × 480 pixels. The effective range extends from 0.2 to 5.0 meters. When tracking objects in motion, speed up to 120 frames per second is achieved.

Various systems of virtual and augmented reality can function on the basis of ISOCELL Vizion 33D. The chip allows you to accurately separate the object in the foreground from the background: due to this, users can be reliably identified by face – for example, for making payments.

In addition, the new sensor can be used to improve the speed and accuracy of the autofocus system in smartphones and other gadgets.

The product boasts low power consumption. Optical format – 1 / 3.2 inches. The timing of the appearance of the sensor in commercial devices has not yet been reported.
