Samsung May Cancel SDC 2020 Developer Conference Strangely Not Due To Coronavirus

According to sources from South Korea, it is possible that the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) will not take place this year.

Taking into account the fact that due to the coronavirus pandemic, events are either digitized or canceled altogether, there will be nothing surprising in refusing to hold SDC 2020. But, according to sources, it’s not just the coronavirus. It has been argued that holding SDC 2020 just doesn’t make sense given the recent strategic shift in Samsung’s approach to the software platform.

As the name suggests, SDC is primarily focused on mobile software. In fact, this is one of the biggest events of its kind, along with Google I / O and Apple’s WWDC. However, the software is nowhere near the top of Samsung’s list of priorities, at least in terms of innovation worthy of discussion at an international conference.

Should the company decide to hold the conference, SamMobile.com believes it will be the weakest version of SDC since Samsung first launched its annual software developer event in 2013. Samsung hasn’t seen any significant breakthroughs in software over the past 12 months, and services like Bixby, Samsung Music, Health, and more are not much different from what they saw last October when SDC 2019 was held. …

Note that the head of the division for the production of mobile devices Samsung Roh Tae-moon (Roh Tae-moon) announced at the beginning of the year the company plans to abandon some software projects in favor of partnerships with other developers.

However, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic cannot be discarded either. Holding a multi-day event in Silicon Valley amid a pandemic presents a number of challenges and significant additional costs. Therefore, most likely, the company will conduct it digitally at best or postpone it to the next year.
