Samsung overtook Apple in US smartphone shipments for the first time in three years

A study conducted by Strategy Analytics suggests that the South Korean giant Samsung in the third quarter of this year was able to break out into first place in terms of smartphone shipments in the United States.

Samsung’s share in the total mass of devices shipped to the US market in the period from July to September inclusive amounted to 33.7%. As a result, for the first time since the second quarter of 2017, the company was able to outstrip Apple, which took second place with 30.2% of the US smartphone market.

In third place was another South Korean manufacturer – LG with a share of 14.7% in piece terms. Thus, these three suppliers together occupied more than three-quarters of the American market – 78.6%.

Strategy Analytics notes that Samsung’s success is attributable to two main factors. Firstly, this is a good demand for mid-range devices, as well as premium new items in the face of Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Z Fold 2. And, secondly, the delay in the release of the latest Apple smartphones – devices of the iPhone 12 family, the presentation of which was moved from September to October.
