Samsung to unveil new MicroLED TV this week

Samsung introduced its first MicroLED display two years ago, the huge 146-inch modular The Wall TV. Since then, the device has appeared on the market in various sizes, including models in 75, 88, 93, 110, and 150 inches. It became known that in the near future the manufacturer is going to release a new model of MicroLED TV.

According to the SamMobile resource, the announcement of new items will take place this week, as part of the planned webinar. The technical features and size of the new MicroLED TV are still unknown, but according to insiders, the device may be aimed at fans of home digital entertainment.

MicroLED displays feature tiny inorganic self-luminous LED pixels that are no more than a few microns in size. The advantages of MicroLED technology are deeper blacks, higher contrast, and generally higher image quality compared to conventional LCD and QLED displays. However, some industry experts believe that Samsung’s current and upcoming MicroLED TVs are not true MicroLEDs, as they use millimeter-sized LEDs rather than micrometer-sized LEDs.

According to Han Jong-Hee, vice president of Samsung’s Visual Displays division, the company aims to launch MicroLED TVs for home use in the second half of 2021 in the European and US markets. The manufacturer is already preparing for mass production since it decided to temporarily slow down the pace of development of the direction of QD-OLED technology – displays on organic LEDs with color filters on quantum dots.

According to analysts, the MicroLED TV market will grow from $ 25 million in 2020 to $ 228 million by 2026.
