Research by Strategy Analytics suggests that South Korean giant Samsung is currently the undisputed leader in the 5G smartphone market in Western Europe.

It is estimated that during the first half of this year, about 4 million smartphones with the ability to work in fifth-generation mobile networks were sold in this region. Over the year, the demand for such devices has risen by more than 4000%.

It is noted that in the first six months of 2020, 5G devices accounted for approximately 7% of the total smartphone shipments in Western Europe. For comparison: a year earlier this figure was less than 1%.

Between January and June, 88% of all 5G smartphones shipped to the Western European market were Samsung devices. In other words, the brand of the South Korean giant was carried by almost every nine out of ten sold devices with 5G support.

However, as analysts predict, in the future Samsung will not be able to demonstrate such results. Competition in the 5G segment continues to intensify. In particular, good sales of the Apple iPhone 12 are expected. In addition, the demand for 5G smartphones from Xiaomi and other Chinese suppliers will grow.
