Samsung will begin equipping its smartphones with OLED displays of the Chinese BOE
Samsung will, according to network sources, this year, for the first time, begin to use organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays manufactured by the Chinese BOE in its smartphones.
These are OLED panels with flexible backing. The BOE-made screens are used in several mid-range Samsung devices that will be part of the Galaxy M family.
Cooperation will be beneficial to both parties. By supplying displays to the South Korean giant, the Chinese BOE will be able to compensate for some of the losses associated with a reduction in orders from Huawei. The latter’s smartphone business, we recall, suffered greatly in connection with tough sanctions from the United States.
As for Samsung, by transferring some of its devices to BOE screens, it will reduce the cost of gadgets and the final price. Consequently, such devices will become more attractive to end consumers.
It is noted that initially, the scope of BOE OLED panels will be limited to several Galaxy M models. The announcement of such smartphones is expected in the second half of this year. Other details have not yet been disclosed.
