Samsung’s flagship smartphones will once again receive Chinese batteries. Last time they appeared in Galaxy Note 7

The Samsung SDI division is currently producing batteries for Samsung’s flagship smartphones. However, the company’s products sometimes use third-party batteries. According to the latest data, the Galaxy S21 will use batteries from the Chinese company ATL (Amperex Technology Limited, New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.).

Samsung has previously removed ATL from its premium battery supply chain following a series of incidents with Galaxy Note 7 batteries that spontaneously ignited. In the past few years, the company has supplied batteries for low-to-mid-range Samsung smartphones. The flagship devices are equipped with Samsung SDI and LG Chem batteries. However, now ATL, apparently, was able to provide the required level of quality.

ATL has reportedly already started producing batteries for the flagship Galaxy S21 family. It is reported that the series will include three smartphones, which will be equipped with batteries with a capacity of 4000, 4800 and 5000 mAh. According to research company B3, as of 2019, ATL ranked third in the world for the production of smartphone batteries, behind only Samsung SDI and LG Chem. That being said, LG Chem mainly supplies batteries for premium devices.
