Samsung’s S Translator app to stop working on December 1st

South Korean company Samsung announced the end of support for its branded translator S Translator. According to reports, the service, which was supposed to be an alternative to translators from Google and Microsoft, will cease operation on December 1, 2020.

The S Translator app failed to gain a lot of popularity, which is probably the reason why Samsung decided to abandon its further development. The developers’ message mentions that all user information that was collected by the translator during the work will be deleted on the day the service ends support.

The company also thanked users for the interest they have shown in S Translator over the years. As a reminder, Samsung’s branded translator supports 11 languages, including Russian. It is obvious that the termination of the translator’s work is another step aimed at optimizing the ecosystem of the South Korean company’s mobile applications. Previously, Samsung had already discontinued support for some services such as S Voice, Mirrorlink, and Find My Car.

It’s hard to say if Samsung will get rid of other unpopular apps and services. If work in this direction continues, then the next may well be the proprietary voice assistant Samsung Bixby. After S Translator stops working, its users will have to look for alternatives among analogs such as Google Translator or Microsoft Translator.
