Seagate hints at the time of the Xbox Series X on sale

The next-generation Xbox Series X game console is equipped with a built-in high-speed 1TB NVMe SSD. It provides 2.4 GB / s of raw I / O throughput. Every year the games are becoming more and more “weighty”, so one such medium may not be enough for fans of large game collections. Even at the time of the announcement of the set-top box, Microsoft, together with Seagate, introduced an external drive, which they call a memory card for the Xbox Series X.

Very little was said about this device as part of the presentation of the set-top box, but recently the Seagate website launched an  official page  for this “expansion card”. As it turns out, the memory card for the Xbox Series X is a 1TB PCIe Gen4 x2 NVMe SSD. According to the manufacturer, the device will be able to provide the same level of raw performance as the internal storage.

“We are proud to have Seagate at the forefront of the next generation gaming market. New performance standards enable games to be rendered prettier and more dynamic for a full immersive experience. The Seagate Memory Card for Xbox Series X allows you to store more games and offers breakneck speed on par with your console’s internal storage. We look forward to responding to the fast, realistic gameplay that our partnership with the Xbox makes possible , ”said Jeff Fochtman, Senior Vice President, Seagate.

In addition, the site states that the Seagate Memory Card for Xbox Series X is part of the Xbox Velocity architecture we recently announced . This means that the device will support, for example, the Quick Resume technology, which allows you to almost instantly switch between previously launched games and continue playing from the same moment where the process stopped.

Unfortunately, the website does not indicate the cost of this expansion card. However, the page contains very interesting information about the proposed launch window for the new Xbox Series X game console. It indicates that the Seagate expansion card for the Xbox Series X will go on sale in the fall of 2020, which means that the console itself should be on sale during the same period.
