Sega hasn’t announced a new Yakuza title at TGS 2020 Online, but has confirmed work on the film

Contrary to the announcement of host Ayana Tsubaki, on September 27, as part of the Sega broadcast from Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online, there was no announcement of the new part of the crime fighters Yakuza.

According to Tsubaki, she misunderstood the plan of the event, which caused confusion. Senior Producer of Yakuza: Like a Dragon Masayoshi Yokoyama apologized in his microblog for the situation.

“Ahead of the 15th anniversary of Yakuza, there are several projects in production. Of course, we also create games. The development team works hard every day to announce [their new creation] one day, ” Yokoyama said.

Instead of announcing the next interactive Yakuza on Sega’s broadcast, viewers were given official confirmation of the series’ adaptation of the series, declassified by Variety last week.

“I told them: I will only approve of the film if it is very good. In this respect, the deal differs from the standard agreement. I don’t think [Yakuza cinema] is needed by itself. It has to be of high quality, ”says the director of the Yakuza series, Toshihiro Nagoshi.

Recall that the film adaptation of Yakuza is being created in Hollywood with the support of 1212 Entertainment and Wild Sheep Content. Judging by the comments of the project participants, the picture will tell about one of the adventures of Kazuma Kiryu.

Meanwhile, the series’ new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, prepares to debut outside of Japan in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The game is expected to be released on November 10 on Xbox Series X and S, and on November 13 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
