Selfie camera iPhone 12 Pro only ranked 7th on DxOMark

We have already written that the Apple iPhone 12 Pro took fourth place in the DxOMark camera phone rating in terms of the quality of the rear camera. Now experts have tested the front-facing photo module of this smartphone. The result turned out to be worse – the smartphone was awarded only the seventh position. The selfie camera of the iPhone 12 Pro received an overall rating of 98 points, which was composed of 101 points for photo quality and 93 points for video shooting.

During testing, DxOMark specialists found that the device provides accurate exposure on faces and correctly reproduces skin tones. Self-portraits are highly detailed under optimal ambient lighting but have a higher level of noise under more challenging shooting conditions. The TrueDepth sensor helps you accurately separate and blur the background in portrait mode.

Among the minuses, DxOMark experts noted jumps in white balance and overexposure of bright areas in frames with a wide dynamic range. They also noticed problems with exposure when using a flash (there is no separate LED backlight, it is provided by the smartphone screen) and blurring of distant objects due to a fixed focus.

When it comes to video, the iPhone 12 Pro is capable of capturing detailed footage with a wide dynamic range and correct white balance. There is a minimum of artifacts, but sometimes stabilization fails when shooting while walking and a distinct noise is noticeable in low light conditions.

Overall, the front camera of the iPhone 12 Pro performed well, although minor flaws prevented it from rising above seventh place. Not only Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro were ahead, but also ASUS ZenFone 7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, Huawei Nova 6 5G, and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G. A detailed report on testing the front camera of the iPhone 12 Pro in English with all examples of photos and videos is posted on the DxOMark website.
