Shares of Android and Windows and the tablet market declined over the year, iPadOS and Chrome OS rose

In the first quarter of 2020, 32.2 million tablets were sold.

A recent Strategy Analytics report relating to the tablet market provides data that allows us to judge the dynamics of the distribution of the specified market by the operating system.

Shares of Android and Windows and the tablet market declined over the year, iPadOS and Chrome OS rose

In the first quarter of 2020, 32.2 million tablets were sold, which is 12% less than in the first quarter of 2019, when 36.6 million tablets were sold.

The largest part of the market is occupied by Android devices – 59.0%. At the same time, their sales in annual terms decreased by 15%, from 21.6 million units to 18.4 million units.

IPadOS tablet sales fell from 9.9 million to 9.6 million, or 3%. However, as the market shrank more, the share of iPadOS increased from 27.2% to 29.8%.

Sales of tablets running on Windows fell by 17% – from 4.9 million units to 4.1 million units. As a result, the share of Windows decreased from 13.4% to 12.6%.

The remaining 0.5% is occupied by Chrome OS. A year ago, the share of this OS in the tablet market was 0.4%. Sales of tablets with Chrome OS for the year increased by 14%.
