Global shipments of smart cellular devices fell 26% year on year to 276.02 million units. The fall was recorded in all regions, which is associated with a pandemic that provoked the self-isolation of citizens, the temporary closure of telecom stores, and retail stores.

According to Counterpoint, China’s Huawei, under the yoke of US sanctions, became the largest smartphone supplier in the last quarter. The share of this company was about 20%. The South Korean giant Samsung, which is in second place, showed about the same result. Closes the top three Apple with 11% of the market. Next come Xiaomi and OPPO with 10% and 9% shares, respectively.

Smartphones with 5G support in the second quarter of this year accounted for 12% of total shipments. For comparison: in the first quarter of 2020, this figure was 7%. About 80% of all devices supporting fifth-generation cellular networks were sold in China.
