Snow will not affect gameplay in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Insomniac Games Creative Director Brian Horton spoke to Game Informer about the lack of environmental impact on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales gameplay.

Recall that the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales unfold a year after the final of the original Marvel’s Spider-Man, just before Catholic Christmas, that is, at the end of December.

Thus, New York in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be covered in snow. It was logical to assume that this would bring its share of variety to the gameplay (slipping, sliding), but no.

According to Horton, the team deliberately did not go on such changes, however, not because of technical limitations, as one might think, but for game design reasons.

“We decided to give the players a sense of reliability: when you do something, you always know what the result of this action will be. Therefore, we opposed many modifications [of the gameplay] like sliding in the snow, ”explained Horton.

However, there is still a place for some effects: the game, for example, will display all traces on the snow and raise white clouds into the air when the hero is pushed off the ground, and will also allow you to evaluate the difference in sound when walking on dry and snowy surfaces.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be released on November 12 this year on PS4 and PS5. Previously, Game Informer showcased one of the foundational scenes in Miles Morales’ rise as Spider-Man.
