Some Apple Watches have problems detecting altitude in certain weather conditions

According to online sources, smartwatches Apple Watch Series 6 and Watch SE may incorrectly determine the altitude under certain weather conditions. Users of the mentioned smartwatches from Germany were the first to notice this feature.

Apple smartwatches are equipped with a constantly working modern altimeter (altimeter), which provides altitude data with an accuracy of 30 cm in real-time. However, many smartwatch users from Germany reported that the gadget provides inaccurate information about the height under certain weather conditions. In some cases, the smartwatch’s altitude data is 200-300 meters different from what it actually is.

According to reports that appeared on Apple’s German tech support site, the smartwatch’s altimeter gives incorrect readings during periods of low air pressure. This problem could be resolved by performing an altimeter calibration. However, Apple does not allow users to perform recalibration requests, and how often smartwatches automatically perform it is unknown. Some users say that the problem can be solved by resetting the Apple Watch and iPhone to factory settings since in this case the altimeter is calibrated, after which it starts working normally.

Apple representatives have not yet commented on this issue, so there is no official way to solve problems with measuring height on the Apple Watch.
