Sony believes that demand for PlayStation 5 will be high regardless of the epidemiological situation

As you know, in the first five months of sales, the PlayStation 5 game console sold 7.8 million units. Sony expects to sell 14.8 million next-gen game consoles for the current fiscal year, ending in March 2022. The shortage of components will not be overcome until 2022, but the normalization of the epidemiological situation is unlikely to undermine the console’s popularity.

Similar forecasts noted by Bloomberg CFO Hiroki Totoki (Hiroki Totoki) shared a briefing for analysts after the announcement of the fiscal quarter results. He added that even if the company manages to increase the volume of PlayStation 5 shipments by next year, it is difficult to predict the full normalization of the situation.

At the same time, a Sony representative is convinced that the PlayStation 5 will be in high demand, regardless of the epidemiological situation. “We have sold 100 million units of PlayStation 4, and given our market share and reputation, it’s hard for me to imagine that demand would drop dramatically, ” said Hiroki Totoki. Quarterly statistics of the company, however, indicate a slight decline in public interest in games. Last quarter, the number of active users of the PlayStation Network branded service fell sequentially from 114 to 109 million people, sales of games also fell compared to last year.
