Sony is preparing the world’s first 1-inch image sensor for smartphones. It debuts in the Huawei P50

Samsung yesterday introduced the ISOCELL GN2 1 / 1.12-inch mobile camera sensor, which has become the largest mobile image sensor on the market. According to a recent leak, Samsung’s lead in this area won’t last long, as Sony prepares to unveil its first 1-inch mobile camera sensor in April, the IMX800.

It is reported that the new sensor will debut in Huawei P50 smartphones. Note that Huawei’s P-series has always been distinguished by using advanced cameras and amazing image quality. Most likely, the Chinese company will continue to follow this tradition in 2021. Recall that the Huawei P40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro smartphones released last year boast a 1 / 1.28-inch Sony IMX700 sensor, which is currently one of the best solutions on the market.

Among other things, an insider hiding under the nickname @ RODENT950 revealed the rear camera configurations of all P50 series devices. In addition to the main and ultra-wide-angle sensors, the base model will receive a sensor with a telephoto lens. A module with a periscope lens will replace the telephoto-optic camera in a more advanced model. In addition to the main and ultra-wide-angle module, the most advanced model will be able to boast of a telephoto camera and a periscope module, which will also be supplemented with a ToF sensor.

The launch date for the Huawei P50 smartphones is still unknown. It is unlikely that Huawei will launch the new P-series in March as it did last year, as the Sony IMX800 sensor is expected to be announced only in April.
