Sony unveils Xperia 5 III – a compact flagship Snapdragon 888 with an advanced camera

Sony today unveiled the uncompromising flagship smartphone Xperia 1 III, which brings together all of the best practices of the Japanese company. It was announced a more compact Xperia 5 III, which, although not as advanced as the older model, but boasts the most productive hardware platform on the market.

The Xperia 5 III received 6.1-inch Full HD. Yes, in modern reality, a smartphone with a similar diagonal is considered compact. For comparison, the older Xperia 1 III has a 6.5-inch 4K screen. Nevertheless, the youngest novelty display retained a refresh rate of 120 Hz, support for HDR, and a cinematic aspect ratio of 21: 9. It is precisely due to this aspect ratio that the smartphone really seems compact. The screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

The smartphone’s camera consists of three 12-megapixel sensors complemented by high-quality optics developed in collaboration with ZEISS. It’s nice that the more affordable model, like the uncompromising flagship Xperia 1 III, has a unique telescopic variable aperture lens. The front camera of the device is represented by one 8-megapixel sensor. In fact, the set of cameras differs from the Xperia 1 III only in the absence of a ToF sensor in the rear system.

The smartphone has retained all the audio capabilities of the “big brother,” including a 3.5 mm headphone jack and support for audio playback in 360 Reality Audio format through built-in stereo speakers. From the Xperia 1 III, the compact smartphone also has a 4500 mAh battery with support for fast 30W charging.
