Recall that the developers decided to release Spelunky 2 on PC without multiplayer: its implementation was not easy for the team, so the premiere of the network mode had to be postponed.

As it became known, the version of Spelunky 2 for Steam will be replenished with online functions on December 14, that is, today. However, so far we are talking only about open beta testing.

As for the announced cross-platform multiplayer, contrary to promises, it will appear in Spelunky 2 no earlier than 2021 – now the team is working on a major patch for PS4, which should be released before December 21.

After integrating crossplay, Mossmouth and BlitWorks are going to work on expanding the multiplayer component Spelunky 2. One of the innovations will be arena mode.

Finally, the developers thanked the players for their patience and support, and also expressed regret that they could not add multiplayer to Spelunky 2 for the release of the PC version – in the end, the decision should benefit the project.

Spelunky 2 was released in mid-September on PS4 and reached PC (Steam) by the end of the month. The Steam version of the 2020 Game Awards Sale is on sale at a 10 percent discount until tonight.
