In late February, Square Enix announced two mobile games in the Final Fantasy universe. One of them was Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier’s battle royale. The co-director of the Final Fantasy VII remake, Tetsuya Nomura, revealed why they decided to develop it in a recent interview. According to him, the project is being created to attract a new audience to the franchise.

According to RPG Site, citing Japanese Famitsu, the executive said: “The demographics of fans of long-standing franchises are usually pretty fixed. This creates a kind of challenge for us to try to act outside of the fan group.
