Oversupply will continue to affect NAND flash prices

TrendForce analysts monitoring the NAND flash market predict that in the first quarter of 2021, prices for this memory will drop by 10-15% from the current level. Prices are expected to decline by 5-10% in the current quarter relative to the third quarter.

SSDs are expected to drop 10-15% in the next quarter

According to analysts, client SSDs account for 31% of all-flash memory produced, corporate SSDs account for 20%, and eMMC and UFS modules account for 41%. The remaining 8% is consumed in the form of crystals used for integration into other products, in particular, memory cards.

Increased output by major manufacturers, including Samsung, YMTC, SK Hynix, and Intel, is driving the decline in prices. It is expected that in informational terms, the volume of output in the next quarter will grow by 6%.

When it comes to consumer SSDs, the most interesting product category for consumers, analysts are confident that prices for them in the next quarter will decline by 10-15% QoQ, as the level of inventories at PC OEMs remains relatively high. At the same time, the demand for client SSDs will also decrease due to the seasonal downturn in the PC market. Whether this will affect retail prices is another matter. The forecast for this and other product categories is shown in the table
