Traveler Preferences Revealed: A Focus on Convenience and Transparency

Recent findings from IATA’s Global Passenger Survey (GPS) shed light on traveler preferences. The survey revealed that complex visa requirements can deter travelers, highlighting the desire for a convenient and digital online visa process.

Key Survey Insights

  • Visa Complexity as a Deterrent: 36% of travelers reported being discouraged from traveling to a specific destination due to complex immigration requirements. Process complexity was the main concern, cited by 49% of respondents, followed by cost concerns (19%) and privacy worries (8%).
  • Shifting Preferences for Visa Acquisition: For destinations requiring visas, a significant majority (66%) of travelers prefer an online application process before travel. Embassy or consulate visits were favored by 20%, with airport visa acquisition the least preferred option (14%).
  • Willingness to Share Information for Faster Airport Processing: A growing trend is the willingness of travelers to share immigration information in exchange for faster airport arrival procedures. The survey revealed that 87% of respondents would be comfortable sharing this information, up from 83% reported in 2022.

Timatic AutoCheck: A Solution for Travelers and the Industry

Timatic AutoCheck capitalizes on these traveler preferences for online processes and information sharing. The system offers a user-friendly online solution for travelers, airlines, ground handlers, departure control systems, and travel agents. This allows travelers to verify compliance with immigration requirements before even arriving at the airport, contributing to a smoother and more efficient travel experience for all involved.
