TCL Unveils World’s First 34-inch Gaming Monitor Curved to Match Human Field of View

TCL launched the world’s first 34-inch ultra-wide gaming monitor with 160Hz refresh rate and 1000R curvature. This means that the display is curved around a circle with a radius of 1000 mm, and this is exactly the curvature that a person’s field of view has. The device boasts an aspect ratio of 21: 9 and a resolution of 3440 × 1440 pixels.

TCL said it went through a lot of technical difficulties in developing the monitor. First, the display is more curved than the 1500R models. The greater the curvature, the higher the requirements for glass bending strength. For this reason, the company has optimized the backlight design to evenly balance the curvature of the glass and also reduce stress on the glass.

Second, the greater the curvature, the more the curvature affects the image quality on the screen and the more difficult it is to adjust. To avoid image artifacts caused by the bending of the LCD, TCL has developed a special alignment film to compensate for the difference in curvature between the top and bottom plates of the panel base. The display has already successfully passed the reliability test and is approved for serial production.

TCL made a major breakthrough in 1000R curvature displays for the first time this June with the release of a 27-inch QHD panel that is supplied by Samsung. The company is reportedly planning to start production of 49-inch 1000R curvature panels in the future.

Monitors with 1000R curvature better match the curvature of the human eye than 1500R models, so they are better perceived visually and provide better comfort for games and movies.
