It combines a three-axis gyroscope with a three-axis accelerometer
TDK Announces InvenSense ICM-42688-P High-Precision Motion Sensor (IMU) In a MEMS MotionTracking-based sensor, a three-axis gyroscope is integrated with a three-axis accelerometer. The device is enclosed in a case measuring 2.5 x 3 x 0.9 mm. Areas of application include robotics, wearable devices, drones, and IoT devices.
TDK Launches 2.5 x 3 x 0.9 mm InvenSense ICM-42688-P Combined Motion Sensor
According to the manufacturer, ICM-42688-P provides a 40% lower noise figure compared to other consumer-class IMUs, doubling their thermal stability. Allegedly, there are two key innovations in ICM-42688-P that are not found in any other consumer-level IMUs: external clock support that eliminates synchronization errors, and a high-resolution analog-to-digital converter. The converter provides an 8-fold increase in the resolution of the gyroscope and a 4-fold increase in the resolution of the accelerometer. Other advantages include the built-in APEX Motion Processing Engine for gesture recognition, classification of actions, and a pedometer, as well as programmable digital filters and an integrated temperature sensor.
Along with the sensor, the DK-42688-P development platform and related software are available.
Recall that a few years ago, TDK bought InvenSense for $ 1.3 billion.
