Tesla autopilot learned to recognize speed limits

Tesla has begun distributing a new version of the software for the autopilot system for its electric cars. The 2020.36 update brings a number of useful features.

In particular, a new speed limit control mode has been implemented. Until now, Tesla’s electric cars have informed drivers about the permissible driving speed based on the readings of the navigation system and the available road maps. The new system uses the vehicle’s on-board cameras to read information from speed limit signs along the way. This allows us to provide motorists with the most relevant information.

In addition, the Green Traffic Light Chime feature has been added. With the help of a sound signal, it notifies the driver that a green light comes on at the traffic light near which the car has stopped.

The software update will gradually be available to all current Tesla electric vehicle owners.

Note that in the second quarter of this year, Tesla shipped 80,050 Model 3 sedans and Model Y crossovers, as well as 10,600 copies of the more expensive Model S and Model X. These results exceeded expectations of Wall Street analysts, who predicted what the company would be able to produce in a quarter of about 72,000 cars.
