Tesla has completed the second part of the Shanghai plant. Chinese Model Y production starts in Q1 2021

The American automobile company Tesla has completed the construction of the second phase of its factory in Shanghai (Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory Phase II), and serial production of the Model Y will start in early 2021.

The construction of the main building of the second stage of the Tesla plant began in February this year, and, according to shobserver.com, work has already been completed on the construction of the building, as well as the main infrastructure.

According to the resource, finishing work is currently underway, and, in parallel, commissioning work on the electromechanical part has begun. According to the schedule, they will be completed in October and November this year, respectively.

The second phase of Tesla’s Shanghai plant will be used primarily to assemble the Model Y electric vehicle, which the company plans to begin mass production in the first quarter of 2021.

Since August 24, two versions of Model Y made in China are available for pre-order on Tesla China’s official website.

The Model Y Long Range RWD version with a WLTP range of 505 km and a speed set from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds will cost 488 thousand yuan ($ 71.4 thousand). The price of the Model Y High-Performance Edition is 535 thousand yuan ($ 78.36 thousand). The power reserve of this model is 480 km (according to WLTP), it is capable of developing a speed from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds.

Tesla is also said to have begun hiring additional workers at its Shanghai plant. According to recent job postings, the company is hiring about 1,000 people to work on the Model Y assembly line.
