Tesla is trying to boost falling sales of expensive Model S and Model X

Tesla is trying to make its flagship Model S and Model X more attractive with a new color to boost flagging sales.

In the third quarter, global Model S and Model X deliveries were down 14% year-over-year to 15,985 units. In the nine months of 2023, 45,905 were sold (7% less than last year). In its heyday, Tesla sold about 100,000 of these cars a year.

The company introduced a new paint color, Ultra Red, in March and initially charged $3,000 for it. In September, all additional paint colors became free, while the company slashed prices by $13,500 to $18,500, even allowing one version of the Model X to qualify for a federal tax credit.

Now customers are offered the color Stealth Gray, which replaces Midnight Gray. Tesla says it is now available on Model S and Model X in North America and Asia. Europe is not mentioned in the list. Other paint colors include Pearl White Multi-Coat, Solid Black, Deep Blue Metallic, and Ultra Red.
