Tesla Model 3 became the UK’s best-selling electric car

The UK authorities released statistics on electric vehicle sales in the country between October 2019 and September 2020. It turned out that the best-selling electric car in the country was the Tesla Model 3 electric car. When choosing an electric car, every third buyer stopped at Tesla (30.69% of registrations). If the statistics include plug-in hybrid cars, Tesla Model 3 accounted for 20.95% of registrations.

The second best-selling electric vehicle during the period of statistics collection was the BMW 330e hybrid. In addition to charging the battery from the electrical network, the BMW 330e can be refuelled with gasoline, since its second engine is a four-cylinder 2-litre gasoline engine.

Of the purely electric models, the second most frequently purchased electric car was the Nissan LEAF, which accounted for 10.93% of sales in the category of electric vehicles and 7.46% of sales including hybrid sales.

The Kia Niro EV and PHEV ranked fourth among plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles with a share of 6.21% (electric and hybrid models combined). The third best electric car, surprisingly, was the Jaguar I-PACE. However, this is a British car, and the houses and walls help. In the electric class, Jaguar I-PACE captured a share of 7.98%, and with hybrids – 5.45%.

Overall, the UK plug-in car market is quite active. In November 2020, plug-in cars accounted for almost 16% of sales, even more than diesel-powered cars.
