Tesla will make its electric cars safer for children and animals left in the cabin in the heat

Tesla, according to Reuters, intends to obtain approval from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the use of a special short-range radar system that will implement a whole range of new safety features.

We are talking about the use of sensors operating in the unlicensed millimeter wavelength range. Moreover, such sensors will operate at a higher power than is regulated by current regulations.

One of the tasks of the system is to detect small children left in the cabin under the scorching sun. In this case, the new radar sensors provide a number of advantages over other monitoring tools such as cameras. In particular, Tesla’s new solution will be able to capture minor vibrations caused by breathing or heartbeat, as well as “see” through some materials, say, a blanket that can cover a child. This minimizes the likelihood of false positives. Also, this system, perhaps, will be able to detect not only children left in the cabin but also animals.

In addition, the new system will help optimize other security features. Radar sensors in the passenger compartment will allow you to assess the physique of each person in the car and adjust the operation of the airbags or belt pretensioners.

Finally, on the basis of such radars, new means of countering theft and theft can be introduced.
