Tesla will offer two different models of affordable electric vehicles

Tesla will offer two different models of affordable electric vehicles

One of the most memorable statements by the head of Tesla last week was the promise to launch an electric vehicle worth $ 25,000 while maintaining the profitability of the business. This week, Elon Musk explained that the production of two different electric vehicles of this price category will be launched at sites in Germany and China, they will not have anything to do with Model 3.

Musk made these comments in correspondence on Twitter pages, as explained by the resource Electrek. He had to draw attention to the fact that Tesla is not going to reduce the cost of the Model 3 electric car to $ 25,000 but instead will develop two new models that will be produced at factories in Shanghai and Berlin, respectively. Apparently, one of the new products will be more compact compared to the Model 3 hatchback, and the second will resemble a small crossover. How the models will be distributed among production sites is not specified, but their design and characteristics will be adapted to the specifics of the two specified enterprises. Most likely, batteries for new electric vehicles will be produced in the immediate vicinity of their assembly site.

Specialized centers in Berlin and Shanghai will be engaged in the development of new inexpensive electric vehicles, Elon Musk specified. If you rely on the recent statements of the head of Tesla, the release of one of these cars should be adjusted in three years. Much will depend on Tesla’s ability to offer more affordable traction batteries in sufficient quantities, as batteries now account for up to 30% of the cost of an electric vehicle. For markets outside the US, the company is also preparing a more compact pickup, as previously reported.
