The KickStarter website is collecting funds for the release of the portable speaker Gomi. Although there are still 19 days until the end of the fundraising, the authors of the project have already managed to raise eight times more money than was necessary to consider it successful.
The body of the Gomi speaker is made of plastic bags, and it runs on old batteries from broken electric bicycles.
A key feature of Gomi is the use of recycled materials in the construction. More precisely, the speaker casing is made of plastic obtained from the recycling of plastic bags. According to the calculations of the creators of the column, 100 garbage bags are needed for one case.
The second point is the power supply. Gomi runs on old batteries taken from broken electric bicycles. According to the authors of the project, they carefully select and test the batteries, so that the work of the column will not cause any complaints. Fast charging a 2.85 Ah battery from the USB-C port takes two hours, and the battery life is claimed to be twenty hours. The battery voltage is 16.8 V.
The speaker power is 25 watts. The housing contains low-frequency and high-frequency emitters.
The column is equipped with a Bluetooth 5.0 interface. It allows not only to reproduce sound at a distance of up to 10 meters from the source, which can be a smartphone, tablet or laptop, but also to connect two speakers in a stereo pair. There is a line-in for connecting devices without Bluetooth.
The device measures 92 x 62 x 196 mm and weighs 800 g.
The minimum contribution to qualify for Gomi is $ 208. Shipping is due to start in November this year. The release of several color options of the device is provided.
