First of all, the C919 is dependent on the USA because of the engines and avionics
The Chinese COMAC reported on the delivery of the second passenger aircraft C919 – it was received by China Eastern Airlines. Earlier, in December 2022, the same airline also received the first C919. At the same time, the first liner was put into operation only in May of this year, although everything should be faster with the second one.
The Chinese aircraft COMAC C919 is not a competitor to Boeing and Airbus airliners.
In general, the supply of C919 is not good, but there is an explanation for this. The delays are attributed to the fact that a large proportion of aircraft components (including engines and avionics) are purchased from American companies, and due to sanctions and tightening export regulations, the delivery times for these components are increasing. For this reason, there is no need to talk about any competition between the C919 and Airbus and Boeing airliners in the domestic market.
COMAC is provided with a large portfolio of orders for C919 – only Chinese state-owned leasing companies expect to receive about 700 aircraft, while the total order volume is more than 1000. COMAC is going to increase production of C919 aircraft to 150 aircraft within 5 years, but with the current production rate, this is hard to believe.
