2015 Ford Fiesta, 2016 Fusion and 2016 Lincoln MKZ
Ford is recalling 45,173 vehicles due to doors that may swing open while driving. The list includes the 2015 Ford Fiesta, 2016 Fusion and 2016 Lincoln MKZ.
The problem is that the spring part can crack and eventually fail. If a part breaks, the door may open unexpectedly while driving. As a warning, owners will see a “door ajar” light.
The doors open as they move. Ford recalls tens of thousands of vehicles
Ford became aware of this problem on August 16, 2023. The automaker, together with the supplier, investigated the situation and determined the number of potentially faulty parts. As of October 18, 2023, there have been dozens of complaints from vehicle owners about faulty door locks or unexpected door openings. There have been no reports of injuries as a result of this problem.
Ford estimates that about one percent of its 45,173 vehicles are affected by this problem. To solve this problem, dealers check the manufacturing dates of door locks. The new parts use a modified spring that is stronger than the original components.
