The named block was created on the constructive and technological base of the functional cargo module “Zarya” using the experience of designing a transport supply vehicle for human-crewed scientific stations “Salyut” and modules for retrofitting the orbital complex “Mir.

After entering the ISS, the new module will provide a large number of workplaces and additional volumes for storing cargo and placing equipment. It will include a robotic arm ERA (European Robotic Arm) with a length of more than 11 meters. Also, Nauka will be able to regenerate water and oxygen.

Following the latest plans, the module was supposed to go into space in April of this year, but the schedule could not be met. Now Mr. Rogozin has commented on the situation.

” In April, we will tell you [the date],” said the head of Roscosmos. According to him, the state corporation doubts that Nauka will be able to fly in May. This means that the launch will take place in June at best. The final date will become known after the final tests. .”
