The first full review of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB has appeared

Graphics card is overpriced

The authors of the Hardware Unboxed channel have published the first major review of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. We have already seen a small review from the MSI channel , and there the older version did not differ much from the younger one. The new review is bigger and more interesting.

True, if you look only at the overall results, it does not seem so. The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB outperforms the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB by an average of 3-4%, which is negligible. That is, there is no difference, and not only in Full HD, but also in 1440p. At 4K, it will probably be more noticeable, but this video card is not designed for such a resolution, if we talk about today’s demanding games.

However, there are also examples where additional memory helps a lot. For example, in The Last of Us Part I at 1440p, the older RTX 4060 Ti is faster, but more importantly here, it has a significantly higher rare event rate (1% Low). In Resident Evil 4 Remake, Full HD resolution and the maximum graphics quality mode are enough for the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB to show much worse performance on the same 1% Low indicator. Sometimes the performance drops down to 4-5 fps, forming the so-called stutters. It is worth noting that the authors have tested this game and a high level of graphics, and there are no problems with both cards.

The Callisto Protocol and A Plague Tale Requiem also demonstrate the huge difference between the two maps already in Full HD, but only when ray tracing is enabled. The junior card in this mode simply produces an unplayable result.

In Halo Infinite and Forspoken, the problems also appear already in Full HD and without any tracing, but these problems are of a different nature. In these games, at maximum settings, a video card with 8 GB of memory simply does not load some high-resolution textures, which makes some objects (grass, stones, etc.) look like they were from a 20-year-old game.

Thus, we can say that on average the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB at its target resolution and even at 1440p has no advantages over the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB. These advantages appear in a number of games in certain scenarios, but, recall, the older version costs $ 500 in the US without taxes and 550 euros in Europe, which is already very close to the RTX 4070, which is much more powerful and does not experience any problems with lack of memory either.
