The first Huawei smartphones with its own Harmony OS will appear next year

This month, the Chinese company Huawei will unveil Harmony OS 2.0, a new version of its own operating system. Unlike the previous version of the platform, which was used only in TVs, Harmony OS 2.0 will be applied to smartwatches, fitness trackers, and other devices, but not smartphones. Now it has become known that Huawei will release the first smartphones with Harmony OS next year.

The CEO of Huawei Technologies Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu, confirmed in a recent interview that the company is indeed working on new smartphones running Harmony OS, and the first of them will be unveiled next year. He also said that this year smartwatches and some other new items will also come with Harmony OS, and in the future, all of the company’s IoT devices, tablets, and smartphones will use their own software platform. It was noted that the Harmony OS-based smartphone has long been ready, but its launch was delayed due to the current agreement with Google. From next year, Huawei can use Harmony OS in any of its own products.

Earlier, Richard Yu announced that Huawei will launch new flagship Mate 40 smartphones based on its own Kirin 9000 chips this fall. He added that the Kirin 9000 could become the latest generation of Huawei’s high-performance chips, as their further production becomes impossible due to US sanctions. Recall that Taiwanese TSMC, which is the main supplier of Huawei chips, can supply products to the Chinese company until September 15.
