This time the focus was on the engine nacelle
The Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) continues to test a model of the import-substituted Russian airliner SJ-100. This time, experimental studies took place in the T-128 transonic wind tunnel, with the scientists focusing on the “wing-engine nacelle – pylon” combination.
The half-model SJ-100 was tested in a transonic wind tunnel
We tested two such options: one from the aircraft developer (that is, from Yakovlev), and the second – proposed by the institute. In both cases, the researchers studied how the SJ-100’s aerodynamic characteristics (specifically lift) changed depending on the powerplant configuration. Which option turned out to be better is unknown. It is only reported that the pylon confirmed its calculated characteristics.
Let us remind you that the first two production SJ-100s should be delivered to Aeroflot before the end of this year.
