The head of Naughty Dog has confessed his love for Jak and Daxter, but the studio is not engaged in a new game in the series
Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells talked about the studio’s multitasking and fans’ hopes for a new Jak and Daxter as part of the new Game Maker’s Notebook podcast.
According to Wells says, Naughty Dog is still receiving requests (a couple of times on Twitter even arranged corresponding flash mobs) from the fans return to the series: “I did not want to upset them, but Jak and Daxter in our development there is now.”
“We still love these characters, and looking at [Insomniac Games] with Ratchet; I also want us to do [the new part]. And it could be in development because the studio still loves Jak and Daxter, ”said Wells.
Jak and Daxter’s last game is The Lost Frontier (2012), but Naughty Dog’s involvement with the series ended even earlier in 2005 with Jak X’s release: Combat Racing.
As for multitasking, Naughty Dog has problems with this: the studio cannot conduct simultaneous (and full-scale) development of even two large games at this stage.
“We don’t have two projects that hundreds of people are involved in. We have one, and the rest are either in pre-production or get out of it, but still have to wait until we are done with the main [game] and can transfer everyone from it, ”said Wells.
According to unconfirmed reports, Naughty Dog is currently developing an unknown multiplayer game and a remake of the original The Last of Us for the PlayStation 5 and overseeing the new part of Uncharted.
