The head of Xiaomi admitted that the additional display of Mi 11 Ultra is a screen from Mi Band 5

One of the interesting features of the flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is an additional display next to the main camera unit. This 1.1-inch OLED  matrix expands the functionality of your smartphone. Today it became known that this screen was not developed specifically for the Mi 11 Ultra but migrated to it from another Xiaomi device.

The additional display has fairly broad functionality. For example, it can display the date and time while remaining always-on, signal an incoming call, show notifications, and act as a viewfinder for the camera, allowing you to take high-quality selfies. According to some, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced today that the Mi 11 Ultra inherited the second display from the Mi Band 5 fitness tracker released last year.

It is not reported whether Xiaomi repurposed the screens originally purchased for the Mi Band 5 or ordered new matrices from the supplier. However, the fact that the display was not designed specifically for the Mi 11 Ultra means that the company has managed to reduce the smartphone’s cost a bit thanks to its use.

Recall that Mi 11 Ultra is the most advanced Xiaomi smartphone. It is built on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip, which works in conjunction with LPDDR5 RAM, which can reach 12 GB. The smartphone uses a main 6.81-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440p. The main camera boasts a huge 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN2 main sensor. The European version of the device with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is 1200 euros.
