The investigation into the incident involving the landing of a Ural Airlines plane in a field near Novosibirsk has been completed. The Federal Air Transport Agency published the corresponding document on November 4.
Experts found that the crew’s error when landing the plane on a wheat field was associated with determining the position of the landing gear and wings after the failure of the “green” hydraulic system.
“When entering the Omsk airport, the hydraulic system pressure was enough to lower the landing gear and close the doors. The flight to Novosibirsk continued with the landing gear extended,” the Rosaviatsiya document says.

The pressure in the “green” hydraulic system has decreased due to wear of the flexible hose of the drive cylinder of the right wing of the main landing gear niche. The report also claims that the incident was caused by a lack of fuel for the flight to the alternate airport. The pilots made a mistake in calculating the required amount of fuel and decided to fly to Novosibirsk.
During the flight, when the plane was moving towards Novosibirsk, the crew discussed the route and landing pattern, but did not pay due attention to fuel consumption and remaining fuel.
However, the Federal Air Transport Agency emphasizes that in the context of the situation that arose after a series of mistakes, landing in a field was the only reasonable and correct decision.
As a result of the investigation, recommendations were made to airlines, including revising the requirements for calculating fuel in flight and taking into account the peculiarities of calculating the remaining fuel in the event of possible failures of aircraft and power plant systems.
