they won’t get iOS 17. And which Apple devices will get iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS Sonoma?
At the WWDC 2023 conference, Apple introduced iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, macOS Sonoma and told which devices will receive these operating systems. Let’s start with iOS 17.
With this version of the mobile operating system, support for the old well-deserved models – the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus – is no longer available. They won’t get iOS 17. The iPhone X won’t get it either. All other versions of the iPhone released later (that is, starting with the iPhone XR, XS, XS Max and iPhone SE second generation) are compatible with the new OS.
The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X are left out of the patch
As for iPadOS 17, this OS is not compatible with 5th generation iPad and 1st generation iPad Pro 12.9-inch screen. And here is the list of supported models:
- iPad 6th generation and later;
- iPad mini 5th generation and later;
- iPad Air 3rd generation and later;
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2nd generation and later;
- 10.5-inch iPad Pro;
- 11-inch iPad Pro 1st generation and later.
With Apple smartwatches, everything is simple: all devices that support watchOS 9 (that is, starting with Apple Watch Series 4) also support watchOS 10.
As for macOS Sonoma, the following Apple computers are compatible with it:
- iMac 2019 and later;
- Mac Pro 2019 and later;
- iMac Pro 2017;
- Mac Studio since 2022;
- MacBook Air 2018 and later;
- Mac mini 2018 and later;
- MacBook Pro 2018 and later.
