The Last of Us Part II could have a different ending that would more accurately show Ellie’s intentions.
According to GamesRadar +, the recent Script Apart podcast featured the head of Naughty Dog and The Last of Us Part II director Neil Druckmann and the game’s narrator, Halley Gross. They talked about the fact that they had already sketched a plan to continue the series and also told about an alternative ending for TLoU II, which they thought about during production. This ending was supposed to show Ellie’s future intentions more accurately.
Attention: further in the material, there are plot spoilers of The Last of Us Part II.
After the final battle with Abby, Ellie returned to the farm, where she lived with Dina and her child. The girl played Joel’s guitar and left in an unknown direction. According to Halle Gross, this scene was planned to be corrected. In the alternate version, Ellie had to take a toy for Dina’s baby and put it in her own backpack. Such detail would show the main character’s clear intention to return to her beloved.
However, the developers still settled on a more open ending, leaving room for thought. After the finale, users will never know where Dina went and what Ellie plans to do.
Recall: The Last of Us Part II was released on June 19, 2020, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
