The 2011 BMW 5-Series is in the lead

Experts from the automotive portal HotCars shared information about the reliability and availability of service for used sedans on the secondary market.

HotCars analyzed reliability data from RepairPal and CarEdge to come up with the list. Model selection was based on average annual maintenance costs of less than $1,000. The study was conducted in October 2023.

The sedan that topped the list was the German 2011 BMW 5-Series, rated 3 out of 5 for reliability. This car is the best choice among midsize sports sedans, considering that maintenance costs the owner an average of no more than $977 per year.

In second place was the 2014 Audi A4, with a reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5. This German sedan features sporty handling, high comfort, reliability and relatively low maintenance costs, averaging no more than $966 per year.

The 2017 Nissan Maxima Platinum closes the top three with a reliability rating of 3.5 out of 5. Servicing this car costs the owner an average of $540 per year.
