In March last year, it became known that Apple officially abandoned the AirPower wireless charging project a year and a half after its announcement. Yes, the Cupertino giant quite officially showed charging back in September 2017 during the decision of the iPhone X!

The power of the iPhone X is wireless charging. Apple AirPower will be based on Apple A11 SoC

And a couple of weeks ago, there was information that Apple revived the AirPower project. It was a question of changes in charging coils and the replacement of silicone surface material with skin.

Now the source adds that the new prototypes, codenamed C68, use the Apple A11 SoC instead of the A10. The Apple A11 is the single-chip system that underpinned the iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X. A more powerful platform supposedly will solve the problem of power distribution between multiple coils. Moreover, the problem occurred exclusively in the case of charging the Apple Watch – the watch uses its wireless charging technology, which probably requires more power.

Recall that earlier, there were rumors that AirPower is running a particular version of iOS, so the use of a full-fledged mobile platform is justified.

Unfortunately, it is not clear when AirPower will be released. It cannot be ruled out that as a result, the project still will not see the light, because Apple itself has not officially said anything about the revival of the project.
