The protagonist of Yakuza: Like a Dragon will remain at the head of the series for “the next ten years”

Japanese dubbing actor Kazuhiro Nakaya, best known for his role as the main character in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, recently revealed in an interview with Weekly Famitsu how long he will be voicing his character.

Recall that the release of Yakuza: Like a Dragon brought with it not only a change in the genre (from action to JRPG) but also an unfamiliar protagonist – the time-tested Kazuma Kiryu gave way to the newcomer of the franchise Ichiban Kasuga.

Apparently, fans of the series will have to get comfortable, because Nakaya is not going to go anywhere. Moreover, the developers have long-term plans for the Japanese actor’s character.

“In the beginning, [Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio founder Toshihiro] Nagoshi came up to me and said, ‘Nakaya, you will help me make a living for the next ten years,’” the artist recalled.

Nakaya also added that he is not going to stop there. Instead, the artist, following the example of Kazuma Kiryu’s voice actor Takaya Kuroda, will strive for self-improvement in his role.

“I would also like to see Kiryu and Ichibana Kasuga one day standing next to each other so that I can hear Kiryu call me brother again,” Nakaya shared.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is already available on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and will reach PS5 on March 2, 2021. Ryu Ga Gotoku has previously confirmed the development of a new part of its crime franchise.
