The release of the shooter CrossfireX with a story campaign from the authors of Alan Wake postponed to next year

Studio Smilegate announced the postponement of the release of the shooter CrossfireX. It was originally slated to hit Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and S during the launch of next-gen consoles, but today the developers said the project was being delayed until 2021.

The reason for the transfer is the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the production of CrossfireX.

“After much deliberation, and given the challenges that the Smilegate development team faced with COVID-19, we made the difficult decision to delay the release of CrossfireX until 2021. The release porting will allow us to bring the Crossfire experience to the console that our team set out to create. We will share the news in the future, ”the statement said.

CrossfireX is a console version of the PC shooter Crossfire, which is analogous to Counter-Strike. The game has become one of the most popular in China and South Korea since its launch in 2007. It is noteworthy that the console version will offer a single-story campaign, which is being developed by the authors of Alan Wake, studio Remedy Entertainment.

CrossfireX was last demoed at the Xbox Games Showcase in July this year. Lately, the shooter team has been quiet – and now it’s clear why. Sadly, CrossfireX isn’t the only Xbox exclusive to have been delayed until next year:  Halo Infinite and The Medium preceded it. And only the last one has a clear release date – January 28 on PC, Xbox Series X, and S.
