And it turned out unusual
As you know, the James Webb space telescope can photograph not only the most distant galaxies, but also objects of the solar system. And yesterday, NASA released the first photo of Saturn taken by a space observatory.
The ringed planet was photographed by the James Webb Space Telescope
The planet looks very unusual, since, recall, James Webb works in the infrared. The planet itself turned out to be dark, because methane absorbs almost all the sunlight falling on the atmosphere, but the rings in the vision of the telescope look very bright.
The photo was taken as part of the Webb Guaranteed Time Observation 1247 program. The telescope took several images of Saturn, which was necessary to test the observatory’s ability to detect faint moons around the planet and its bright rings. As you can see, James Webb did a great job: the image shows not only the rings, but also several satellites (Dione, Enceladus and Tethys).
