The screens of Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro are completely “opened”: added 120 Hz mode at a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels

Meizu’s head of marketing, Wan Zhiqiang, said the company’s engineers worked overtime to implement this feature. Finally, the firmware is ready for release. He confirmed that smartphone users will receive the corresponding update as soon as possible.

The Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro smartphones are equipped with Samsung AMOLED screens with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, which support an image refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a touch layer polling rate of 240 Hz. Only at the time of the release in the maximum resolution, the refresh rate of the screens was reduced to 60 Hz. When the 120 Hz mode was activated, the resolution decreased.

Then the representatives of Meizu confirmed that the developers deliberately abandoned the simultaneous use of the maximum resolution and frequency of 120 Hz, since this increases power consumption sharply, which negatively affects the operating time of the device without recharging, and the heat generation of smartphones significantly increases.

However, after a wave of criticism, Meizu promised to fix this point. The developers have also posted a screenshot that confirms that the mode is already working.
